A little article about my pal Angel out in Providence, RI (and, better still, written by my other pal, DJ Zydrate’s mom).
This man is awesome and very dear to my heart. He was one of the first friends I made in the Greater New England rave scene and one of the first to truly welcome me as part of the family and believe that I had something to offer and bring to the table. And when making the transition from a genre and scene that I was very well-established in but doesn’t fit so well anymore to one that I am genuinely passionate about, but relatively unknown in, that acceptance and belief means the world to me. I am very thankful to call Angel a friend!
Also, though I’m not technically local to the Providence area at this time, I have been adopted as part of Team Deep End and proud to leave my mark on the world of EDM/UDM in Rhode Island and far beyond. Plus it means I get to see some amazing people more :)

Angel (Model 2.5) & The Deep End, Providence’s Only Monday Night EDM Party
As I sit down with Angel (Model 2.5), Providence’s authentic answer to the Club Kid, I’m amazed and completely inthralled by his beauty. A fantasy look of bright blue hair & a beat on a mug that would put Ms. Ru Paul to shame. I am immediately put at ease with his warm, welcoming demeanor. “Bitch!! Your Hair is flawless!” Angel exclaims and I want to blush, thinking, if only I was half as pretty as this young man….And that is Angel, a gorgeous combination of beauty, attitude & music. A music lover first, then adding to his resume, make-up artist, DJ & successful club promoter. Think of a better Micheal Alig, a Micheal Alig 2.5, if you will. All of the charisma, mind blowing looks, & appeal but without the gruesome, drug fueled murder & sociopath personality. While Angel (Model 2.5)’s look might have the base of a 90’s NY Club Kid straight out of LimeLight, he’s added to it, making it better, making it his own. Angel (Model 2.5) comes complete with his own language of “Beeps” & “Boops”, he lovingly calls his friends “whores”, but most importantly he throws awesome parties. And his personality couldn’t be further from the elitist, unwelcoming NYC Club Kid. In fact, Angel describes The Deep End Party at Dive Bar as a “chill, underground” atmosphere. “Just plain Fun” he humbly describes The Deep End, a successful Monday night party. The music on the other hand is anything but chill, it’s high energy, it’s ALIVE. The Electronic Dance Music played at The Deep End is House, Drum and Bass, and Hard Dance. Music that will rock your soul and get the heart pounding with electronic music that can reach as much as 188 Beats Per Minute. Angel (Model 2.5) is a complete duality, almost a contradiction in ways, an enigmatic open book, a fabulous physical appearance with a raw, even gritty, love & passion for the EDM scene. In other words, he looks better than you, knows more about EDM (Electric Dance Music) than you, he’d just never say it.
Angel (Model 2.5)’s baby is The Deep End. He water birthed the night in 2012 when Dive Bar’s owner decided the only local promoter & DJ that could make a Monday night a success was in fact Angel. Through out the years he’s seen some super incredible talented visit & spin. Says Angel, “….as far as some of my favorite DJs that have spun for us, I’d really have to say that its been great having people like Justin Dupont, Jackie Treehorn, Jeff LeClair , Dan Desumthin , DJ Paralax, Mizeyesis, and Soappy were a few amazing talents. I don’t have a favorite, I love them all. I also have a special place in my heart for the kids that play their first show with us to established themselves. I have some great talented like DJ Zydrate who is fairly new to Deep End but dedicated and spins a unique style of EDM which is called Gabber. Honestly, I’m always happy with the talent that walks through our doors every week.”
What’s also inspiring, amazing and unique in Providence night scene where most parties are either gay or straight is how Angel can throw a party that literally appeals to all. Ravers, Conservatives, Gay, Straight, Shy, Out Going, Hard partiers or Straight-Edge. When I asked Angel how he manages to cross over into a more diverse crowd he says, ” I feel that being myself has helped with anyone gay, straight, raver, ect… is to have a good time. It’s all about being attentive and being a good host. If i know some one has never been to the Deep End before, I always make sure to say hi, introduce myself, and genuinely welcome them. This always naturally sparks a conversation. Also if people see that you’re truly happy to make sure they have a great time, they go home with that feeling and come back again. So i guess the secret is always be a great host.”
Well Angel (Model 2.5) you are running Providence, RI’s only successful Monday Night EDM Party so I’d say it’s working.
The Deep End is Monday nights at Dive Bar in Providence. Their Event Page can be found on FaceBook. Or you can Follow Angel (Model 2.5) on Facebook under the name, Angel David Vasquez.

Too fucking often…

Promoter: "Oh hey! I’d really like to book you to spin one of my events!"

Moi: "Sweet! Send me over some details and I’m sure we can get something worked out."

Promoter: “It’s a ‘Female DJ’ theme.”

Moi: *eyeroll* “ Uggghhh… not AGAIN!”

Just no. Seriously, guys. Could we just STOP with these things already? While I can certainly recognize that in quite a few cases, the intensions are well-meant with these kinds of events, but I personally dislike playing them and there’s way too many implications to these kinds of parties that just aren’t helpful. My sex/gender are pretty irrelevant to my skills or my work, nor do I wish to make them so. So please, I absolutely love bookings, but I’d rather you bring me in on just any ol’ night so I can throw down with the guys, girls, and anything else under the spectrum alike!

HAPPY HOLIDAYS AND MUCH LOVE, EVERYONE!
Whatever you do or do not celebrate at this time of year, I wish all of you out there a wonderful holiday season and a safe and happy start to 2014.This has been a massive year for me! While I did not tour Europe as extensively as usual, I got to spin in Denmark for the very first time. Domestically, I traversed the length of the East Coast and made it to the legendary Castle in Ybor City, FL, to The Shelter in Atlanta, to extensive gigs throughout the New England region. Along the way, I got to perform with some bands and DJs who have always been favorites, worked with some new folks who have since become dear friends, and even held my own spinning alongside rave legend DJ Venom, who has been a hero to me since the 90s! I am truly thankful for every second of this fantastic, crazy ride and to all the people, personally and professionally, who have supported me along the way.Naturally, I’m going to do everything I can to make 2014 bigger and better. I’m already booked for a couple massive festivals and will be making my first appearances on the convention circuit. Ventures to Canada and the Pacific Northwest are already in the works and I’m looking forward to a long-awaited return to Europe. I’m eager to return to some of my favorite cities and will be trying to make my way to as many new places as I can, including my first-ever gig in the Czech Republic!
I can’t wait to see what this new year will bring and I’m thankful for each and every one of you who have come along to take the journey with me!

My Imperial City, I miss you so much <3

We’ve been apart for far too long, but this city and everyone there are no less a part of me because I would never has come as far as I have if it wasn’t for them.

Thanks, Vienna, for helping me believe I was worth something. And that I deserved better than what I was getting at home. All of you gave me a HUGE gift.

And know this… we WILL meet again in the springtime. Trust me ;)

Discovery Project: Fall 2013 Hard Dance Mini Mix ]

B.A.D.A.S.S. Raves is looking for talent they haven’t discovered yet!

If you can spare a second, please click this link and then “like” my Hard Dance mix, which will go a long way in showing the organization that there’s interest behind me and that I am a PROFESSIONAL, dammit (lol)! Additionally, you can find my Live @ Digital Circus Hard Trance mix also entered, so please show it some love as well.

I really appreciate the support! It’s been tough trying to transition from the alternative world to my rightful place in the world of Hard Dance, but one that is truly starting to pay off. Thanks, everyone!

It is with great sadness that I have to announce that this year’s edition of VP Live 2014 has been cancelled due to lack of funding/interest. Sadly, as I was intended to be one of the DJs for this event, by extension this also means that my gig in Antwerp will not be happening. We could probably all point fingers of blame and argue about the reasons why this happened until we’re all blue in the face, but what it really comes down to is this: That sucks.

While my own personal journey as a DJ, performer, and music industry professional has led me away from the traditional borders of the “dark” scene (though my work will certainly always be dark in one definition or another), Vampire Party has always been an event that is dear to my heart. One that I’ve always told myself that no matter how far away I go from the industrial/dark scene, to what extent I outgrow those boundaries, and whether or not events within that scene become more and more of a minority for me over time, I will ALWAYS play Vampire Party or any VP-organized event, so long as I’m wanted there. David is, far and away, one of the most passionate and professional organizers I have ever had the pleasure of working with. I’m honored to have a positive and continuing working relationship with him, honored to call him a friend, and considering that VP would be gearing up to celebrate its 20th anniversary in 2015, I’d certainly love to see David keep going and hit that milestone.

And so, I make this post out of a little bit of hopefulness, not to mention as a general nudge for a city and country that I consider home in many ways and who treated me like part of the family the very first time I ever turned up there. VP Live might be cancelled, HOWEVER, a little bird told me that as long as things go positively with the scheduled Halloween event, something *could* be happening in Antwerp on that last Saturday in April.  It won’t be the festival and I can’t say much else, but I feel I can take the liberty of saying that it will certainly be fun and that as long as it happens, we’ll meet again very soon ;)

Want to do your part to make sure that happens? It’s easy! Go to the VP XS Halloween event that will be going on at Petrol on October 31 and have a great time. If you can, buy a presale ticket, but even if you can’t just show up if you can. There’s 3 great DJs there to play for you, along with performances by Phosgore and Straftanz. Seriously, STRAFTANZ. They’re AWESOME. And lots of fun live, so it’s worth it. Having spent the last 2 Halloweens at Vampire Party, it’s fun and its worth it.

While I’m intending to schedule European dates for April no matter what, I certainly would love Antwerp to be among them. Don’t let me down, Belgium. I know you guys have some serious life left in you.
